Fons Mallorquí de Solidaritat i Cooperació

The Majorcan Fund for Solidarity and Cooperation is a non-profit-making organization founded in 1993, in order to coordinate and channel the annual contributions to development cooperation from Majorcan town councils and other associate bodies

Its main objective is to manage these economical resources through cooperation projects, in order to contribute efficiently to a comprehensive and self-sustainable development for people and communities in the South, whom these proposals are addressed, conceiving cooperation from an integrative point of view, which includes the strengthening of local power and decentralization. Besides, the Fund's activities are also inscribed on the following goals:

• to support initiatives from Majorcan institutions and bodies, in order to create, among the citizens, a view that favours a new international economical order;
  
  
• to promote a political and ethical commitment to the South and Human Rights;
  
  
• to stimulate an active and critical participation of population by means of campaigns and awareness activities on cooperation for development.

The Majorcan Fund is organized in three work areas:

a) Cooperation projects: committed to coordinate projects and other cooperation activities carried out by the Fund through projects, emergency aid, town twinning, collaboration agreements, or specific campaigns.s.

b) Awareness: which carries out its own awareness activities on cooperation for development, and though which proposals from other bodies are also financed.

c) Documentation centre: created in the framework of the Cooperation Training Centre as a collaboration space between Majorcan NGO´s and the Fund, in order to manage information, diffusion and research on cooperation for development.

At present, the Fund assembles 58 members, of which 51 are town councils representing more than 90% of the towns in the island. Both the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Majorcan Insular Council are members of the Majorcan Fund.
